Home Sweet Home
Literally the worst kept secret ever!
As rumors swirled about if the World Mountain Bike Championships were coming back to Durango where they started 40 years ago, the formal announcement was made September 26th the same night of the world premiere of the Go CG Kuss movie, a fund raiser for Durango Devo. Everyone knew ahead of time that it was official, because nothing is secret with Social Media. But that did not dampen the excitement of the crowd as Gaige Sippy, the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, and Dave Rathbun from Purgatory made it official. The event will be held at Purgatory resort. Additionally, in preparation for the huge event several races will need to be held prior to the World Championships. Stay tuned as more information comes to us. We do know that it will take a community of volunteers to help pull of this epic world stage event. A huge thank you to all of those individuals, and Durango City Government that helped bring back this amazing event to our community.
Ride with the Champions
Where else but in Durango?
Where else but in Durango will you see this many National Champions all wearing their Stars and Stripes at one time? As part of the Go CG Kuss world premiere movie, a Durango Devo fundraiser, Durango decided to have a small gathering of our Champions to ride with none other than Sepp Kuss and 1,000 of their friends to have a little bike parade to celebrate the event and the announcement of the World Mountain Bike Championships in 2030.
OH BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE!
Winter Biking Tips
Brought to you by Pedal Durango and our partners at Lola’s Restaurant
🚴 If You’ll Keep Riding Through Winter
1. Clean Thoroughly Before Winter
Wash off dirt, grease, and grit.
Wax the frame (optional) to help protect against salt and moisture.
2. Protect the Drivetrain
Use a wet lube or wax-based lube for your chain—it resists slush and salt better.
Wipe down the chain after each wet/salty ride
3. Tires
Consider switching to wider tires with more tread for grip.
If you ride on ice, studded tires make a big difference.
4. Fenders & Mudguards
Install full-coverage fenders to keep salt, mud, and slush off you and your drivetrain.
5.Brakes
Check pads (rim or disc) and replace if worn—wet and grit wear them fast.
Disc brakes work better in snow/slush than rim brakes.
6.Lights & Visibility
Winter means shorter days—add bright front and rear lights.
Reflective clothing or tape helps in low visibility.
🚲 If You’re Storing Your Bike
Deep Clean
Wash and dry the bike fully, including drivetrain and frame.
Lubricate
Oil the chain and moving parts lightly to prevent rust.
Tires
Inflate to normal pressure.
If possible, hang the bike or rotate tire position every few weeks to prevent flat spots.
Battery Care (if e-bike)
Store the battery indoors, around 50–70°F.
Keep it about 50–70% charged and recharge every 1–2 months.
Storage Environment
Store in a dry, cool place—avoid damp basements or unheated sheds if they get wet.
Cover the bike with a breathable cover (not plastic tarp, which traps moisture).
Check in Periodically
Every month or so, give the bike a spin, squeeze brakes, and check tire pressure.
