This winter event takes place with the legendary Durango annual winter festival Snowdown. With a history back to the early nineties at the Durango Cyclery, there are cardboard results to prove it, many legendary Durango riders have taken part in this celebrative competition. Heats of two riders at a time for 15 minutes to see who can go the greatest distance in the end. Riders are often costumed, as are the spectators, in the Snowdown theme of the year “A Shakespearian Snowdown”. Competitors have been known to imbibe mid race as a true test of metal. The current records are held by James Hilyer and Sarah Sturm. Held in local establishments over the years, Zia Taqueria North in the Cantina will be the host for the foreseeable future.
