Twin Buttes

In Town Durango

Novice-Advanced

This system is about 1.5 miles west of the Animas River on HWY160 behind the Giant Gas Station. Some folks choose to drive to the trailhead but the ride up HWY160 is a good warmup. The trails in this system are listed as both directions but 99.99% of folks ride the loops counterclockwise to take advantage of descending Upper and Lower Ed & Flow. There are hikers who go up and back from the trailhead so always good to keep your head up. The trail begins fairly steep and rutty but levels out a bit after the initial push (that is where the good warmup comes in handy) and the terrain is a mix of rocky/rooty to open meadow. The overall loop can be shortened by staying on the Lower Loop or not riding the Cliff Rock Loop but the eastern edge of Cliff Rock has great views. If wanting more you can always access Overend Mtn Park from the Tech Center to get back to town. Oh yeah, cool thing here, as of now Twin Buttes is the only Durango in-town trail system to allow Class 1 EMTBs!

Check out Twin Buttes comprehensive maps, stats, trail conditions, and more.
