This ride climbs, rolls and meanders through the Florida River Valley and east towards Bayfield. It has a mix of good shoulder, no shoulder, some gravel and the pavement is generally in good shape. The roads get progressively quieter as you get toward the turnaround point.
As with most road rides heading east of town a great place to start and end is Bread on the corner of CR 250 and Florida Rd. After your coffee and pastry head east on Florida Rd. (CR 240) up the Edgemont climb to a right turn on CR 234 at the Fire Station. Follow CR 234 along the Florida river to a left turn, more like a fork, onto CR 225 which immediately turns to dirt that is usually in good condition but be prepared for potholes and washboards at any time. There are a couple tight turns in there and plenty of traffic coming the other way so be cautious. CR 225 returns to pavement just before the Ticolote climb and then meanders its way to a left on CR 223 just before HWY 160. CR 223 undulates before topping out in a couple miles then drops past the Bayfield Transfer Station and Lion’s Shooting Range down to its end at HWY 160.
There is a generous wide spot to turn around and regroup here and then back up over the hill right to CR 225. If riders want to shorten this ride and retrace the outbound route keep right on CR 225. If riders want to stay on this route keep left on CR 223, crossing the Florida river then a sneaky right onto CR 230, turning to dirt and up a steep climb. The road bends left and continues on a low-grade climb to CR 229 and after a right turn another right on CR 228 (turning back into pavement), down across the Florida river and to a left turn on CR 225 (dirt), up to CR 234 keeping right back up to a left turn on CR 240 (Florida Rd) past Edgemont and back to Bread to recharge.
