This trail system on the west side of town is characterized by its shale hills and gullies in pine, juniper and oak forest. There are many ways to access the trails, but the Ella Vita, Leyden St and Hidden Valley are the most popular trailheads. All the trails in the system are two-way traffic but locals ride the system generally in a counterclockwise direction and the famous Star Wars is mainly a downhill trail. 8 Bells is a two-way link that connects the north and south parts of the system. The climbs are short and punchy and the downhills are very twisty and steep at times. Perin’s Gulch is a fun, easy out and back and the west side of the system is Dept of Wildlife land, so no mechanized traffic, keep an eye out for signs at the boundary and please do not cross.
